Goals
My main goal is to put together an electronic kit one which I can practice and
perhaps use at church. Here is a list of what I plan to do to get there. (Items on list subject to change, not to mention failure)
- To start with, I would like a 5-piece kit with all mesh heads, and two cymbals.
- I want to find a cheap used kit and use as many parts as possible from it.
- I plan to chop the two ride toms in half to make the three toms and snare.
- For the kick (crazy, insane idea #1), I’d like to use the full floor tom and try to make it so it will open up to store the other drums, ala the Yamaha Hip Gig. If you are not familiar with the Hip Gig, it is a very portable kit where the two toms and snare store in the kick drum, which unlatches and splits apart. Then, all the hardware fits in another cylinder that has a pad on one end, and doubles as a throne. You can load-in in one trip; pretty sweet.
- For the cymbals, I want to use the Pintech practice cymbal set and convert them to eCymbals.
- I also thought about installing a subwoofer in the kick, especially when I thought it was an original idea, but it appears someone beat me to the punch.
